We were contacted by a client looking to completely transform their bungalow property in Irby on the Wirral looking to transform their home and extend it for a more free-open space design.

They wanted to design a brand new space for their home, which required a full redesign of the property, construction for a rear extension, strip out and decoration, electrical work, plumbing and heating and various installations to bring their vision to life.

We orchestrated the full project from start to finish, taking just under 18 weeks to complete, and produced end results that we are extremely proud of. This project is one of our many favourites that we have completed for our clients and we are proud to show you what we are capable of.

Client’s Aim

The owner of the property wanted to completely transform their home, offering a brand new living space that their family could enjoy.

By adding more space to the inside of the property by adding an extension in the back of the property, they wanted to add an orangerie that they could use to enjoy the views of their garden.

During the process, we worked closely alongside the client to make sure that the end result of the project was fulfilled and continued to communicate with them during the whole process. This was important, due to their old age, so we implemented our design to provide a home that was open, free flowing and provided easy-access for them.

Issues we Faced

We realised that the flooring had asbestos so it was unsafe to remove during the strip out phase, which meant that we had to work with an external company to make sure that it was safe for us to work in and the client to live in.

We also faced severe weather conditions during the process, which meant that some of our construction work was delayed slightly. We didn’t want the plastering to be affected by the cold, damp conditions which could cause structural issues in the long run and void all of our hard work. We worked closely with the client and informed them about these concerns and they were understanding that it was likely to prolong the project’s initial deadline.

During the construction process, we discovered some structural issues in the kitchen so we demolished the wall and implemented a stud wall that was safe to live in.

Work we Completed on the Property

Before starting our work, we surveyed the property to review how we would approach our construction work and complete it to ensure that the property kept it’s structural integrity and the client was able to live in it safely once the work was completed.

Building Work

Before going ahead with the installations, we completed building work that required stripping out the property and making structural changes to implement the new design.

Strip Out

We stripped out the whole of the property from head to toe, including old flooring and plastering to ensure the integrity of the property and make sure that it was a reliable place for the client to live in.

Rear Extension Construction

The property required a small extension at the back of the property to make room for a small dining area and the new bathroom and shower room.

This required the construction of the extension that used minimal garden space that wasn’t previously being used and significantly expanded the space towards the back of the property.

We lay the foundations and brickwork to create the foundations for the extension, and then proceeded to add the walls to part each of the rooms.

Plumbing and Heating

We completed all new plumbing and heating for the property in order to provide reliable water supply for the new kitchen and bathroom space and underfloor heating throughout the property.

Electrical Rewiring

We completed a full rewire of the property so that the kitchen had all new light fittings for spotlights in the ceiling, as well as cupboard lighting to give the kitchen area it’s spark back.

Plastering and Decoration

All of the existing rooms in the property, as well as the new extension was replastered and decorated to prevent the risk of damp and bring a fresh coat of paint to brighten up the space.

Installations

After the construction and building work we were ready to fit out all of the rooms and bring their vision to life with the last touches.

Kitchen Installations

We started installations with the kitchen, adding an integrated oven and microwave with extractor fan, integrated fridge freezer, integrated dishwasher, brand new cupboards and a breakfast bar.

We added new spotlights, light fittings and cupboard lighting to light up the new space.

We installed wooden laminate flooring throughout the space, making it an easy clean for spills but a modern, sophisticated area for eating and enjoying gatherings with family.

The doors we used for the inside of the kitchen area were glass, which brought light in from all angles and freshened up the property.

Bathroom and Shower Room Installations

We then completed installations for the bathroom and the shower room, which meant installing a walk in shower, bath, new cupboards, mirrors, toilet, sink and extractor fan.

The walls and the flooring in the bathroom were tiled to ensure full damp protection for practicality, but create a lovely finish.

Orangerie Installations

We added new flooring tiling to the extension and to create a warm, classic finish that stood out when contrasted with the wooden laminate flooring in the kitchen area.

We installed a sky light into the ceiling of the extension, wide open windows and double patio doors so that they can be opened and bring in some fresh air during those warmer, Summer months.

The Peninsula Group Finishing Touches

After the completion of installations, we wanted to leave the property in the best condition as possible.

We completed a full cleanout of all the rooms and a jet wash of the drive way to leave the property spotless.

End Result

The client was ecstatic with the end result. Their bungalow had been completely transformed and couldn’t wait to have the rest of the family around to enjoy their new extension with them.

Customer satisfaction is why we do what we do at Peninsula Group, so we delighted with the final result and our client was left with a home they can enjoy for many years.
