Daily wear and tear take a toll on all parts of your home, but bathrooms can suffer more than other areas in your house. The constant exposure to steam, soap and water can cause mould and mildew to develop, especially if your bathroom is not well ventilated, and over time your grout can become contaminated with limescale and scum, and the silicone sealant around your bath, shower and basin can perish and turn black.
All of these common bathroom problems are at best unsightly and at worst a health risk, exasperating respiratory conditions like asthma. They are also a clear indication that it is time for a good bathroom scrub down, re-sea land overhaul.
If you want to prolong the life of your bathroom and not have to do a complete renovation, it is important to keep your bathroom well ventilated as well as clean and dry as this will make it less likely for mould and mildew to take hold. But as your bathroom ages, it will need more attention and leaks can become a problem. If you have an older property you need to be on the look-out for leaky bathroom pipes, taps and showers.
